If you’re finding it difficult to understand your child, it could be a sign that they may benefit from speech therapy. Every child develops at their own pace, but if their speech is unclear or causing frustration, a speech evaluation might help determine if extra support is needed. A speech therapist can assess their communication skills and guide you on the best next steps. Contact us for help finding resources or knowing what signs to look for.
Language therapy helps children develop the ability to understand and use language effectively. It focuses on skills like following directions, building vocabulary, forming sentences, and expressing thoughts clearly. If your child has trouble understanding what others say, struggles to put words together, or has difficulty communicating their needs, they may benefit from language therapy.
If you’re unsure whether your child needs support, a language evaluation can help determine if therapy would be beneficial. Would you like guidance on signs to look for or how to get started with an evaluation, reach out to our team for more information.
If your child isn’t meeting speech and language milestones—like saying first words by 12-15 months or combining words by age 2—it’s a good idea to seek guidance. Early intervention can make a big difference!
Yes! Speech and language therapy can be incredibly beneficial for children with autism. It helps them develop communication skills, whether that means using words, gestures, pictures, or assistive technology to express themselves. Therapy can also improve social skills, such as taking turns in conversation, understanding emotions, and making genuine connections with others.
Every child is unique, so each child’s therapy is tailored to their specific needs. If you’d like to explore how speech and language therapy can support your child, we’d be happy to guide you through the next steps!
While some children do out grow their difficulties, others need continuous targeted support to develop strong communication skills. Early intervention is the best way to help prevent future academic and social challenges. Reach out to an expert member of our team to learn more.
A speech-language pathologist (SLP) works with your child through engaging activities, games, and exercises tailored to their needs. Therapy can focus on improving speech clarity, expanding vocabulary, building sentences, and enhancing social communication skills.
It depends on the child and their needs. Some children make progress in a few months, while others may benefit from ongoing support. The therapist will regularly assess progress and adjust goals as needed. Daily sessions can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the level of need for your child’s unique needs
Talking, reading, and playing with your child daily helps build their skills! Encourage conversation, model correct speech, expand on what they say, and create a language-rich environment. A licensed therapist can also provide specific activities to practice at home.
You can start by reaching out to your child’s teacher, school counselor, principal, or ESE coordinator to express your concerns. They can guide you through the process of formally requesting an evaluation. There are state and district guidelines that schools have to adhere to. If you are having difficulties, contact a member of our team for more support. We are happy to help you navigate these waters with highly experienced members of our team.
Public schools offer speech therapy services for children who qualify, usually through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). However, some families choose private therapy for more personalized or frequent sessions. Additionally, private therapy sessions occur one-on-one. Group sessions often contain multiple students with a variety of goals making therapy sessions less effective than personalized and individual support.
We’re always happy to connect! If you have any questions or want to learn more, don’t hesitate to reach out—we look forward to hearing from you!
